Malton Youth Hub
The opening of the Malton Youth Hub, also known as the Jonathan Davis Centre, represents a massive investment in the future of young people in the community. This 18,000-square-foot facility was created through a clever renovation of the old, unused swimming pool at Lincoln M. Alexander Secondary School. By transforming a vacant space into a high-tech center for teenagers and young adults between the ages of 12 and 25, the city has provided a safe and modern place for residents to learn new skills and hang out with friends.
One of the most exciting parts of the training center is its professional-grade equipment. For those interested in the arts, there is a state-of-the-art music recording studio where youth can learn the technical side of music production. If someone is more interested in the culinary arts, the facility features a large commercial kitchen designed specifically for teaching. This allows young people to get hands-on experience in cooking and food preparation, which can help them find jobs in the restaurant industry. There are also several multi-purpose rooms used for workshops, computer training, and various community classes that help bridge the gap between school and the professional world.
Beyond just learning new trades, the hub acts as a “one-stop-shop” for essential services. Several partner organizations are located right inside the building to offer mental health support, housing advice, and employment counseling. This means that if a young person needs help writing a resume or finding a summer job, they can get professional guidance in the same building where they play basketball or record music. The goal is to make these important resources easy to find and comfortable to use, removing the stress that often comes with seeking help.
The training center is also part of a larger upgrade to the entire neighborhood’s sports and recreation scene. Right next door, a brand-new $1.3 million sports complex opened in the summer of 2025, featuring a professional-quality running track and turf fields. Additionally, the main Malton Community Centre just finished a major renovation in late 2025 to update its workout areas and meeting rooms. Together, these buildings form a massive campus on Morning Star Drive dedicated to health, education, and career success.
As of early 2026, the Malton Youth Hub is fully operational and has already become a central part of daily life for hundreds of local students. It serves as a reminder that the community is dedicated to giving its youth the best possible tools to succeed in whatever career path they choose.
